Medical Assistant--Part-Time, Huntsville, AL

The Aletheia House is looking for a caring, energetic, qualified Medical Assistant to work in our Women’s Hope North Health Center on a part-time basis. Area serviced is Huntsville, AL.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Women’s Hope North Health Clinic Treatment Services Coordinator North, the Medical Assistant performs clinical procedures to support health practitioners for the Women’s Hope North Health Clinic in Huntsville, AL. The Medical Assistant prepares patients for treatment; assists with completion of treatment/protocols; maintains exam room inventories; performs simple, non-invasive patient procedures; coordinate enabling and support services to meeting the ongoing needs of the Women’s Hope North Health Clinic; schedules referral and diagnostic test appointments; performs medical charting and recordkeeping; may perform clerical duties such as typing and insurance filing as requested; interpret data to generate detailed reports; and Interfaces professionally with outside resources including patients, students and other professionals. The Medical Assistant has discretion with knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures that is fundamental for this role. The Medical Assistant works closely with the Treatment Services Coordinator North and Director of Behavioral Health.

Primary Responsibilities:
-Provides clinical support to the Women’s Hope North Health Clinic and its health practitioners including taking medical histories, vital signs, prepares patients for exams, and assisting physician/nurse practitioners during exams.
-Collect and prepare lab specimens, perform CLIA waived laboratory tests and dispose of contaminated supplies.
-Instruct patients on medications and special diets.
-Provides referrals to address identified needs related factors affecting health (medical, social, housing, or educational).
-Provide patients with health education materials approved by the Women’s Hope North Health Center.
-Prepare and administer medications as instructed by a physician/nurse practitioner.
-Arrange and prepare examining rooms’ equipment and instruments.
-Stocks exam rooms with medical supplies.
-Stocks laboratory with lab supplies.
-Performs basic diagnostic procedures such as obtaining EKGs.
-Performs medical charting, recordkeeping, typing, insurance filing and other clerical needs.
-Updates medical records.
-May fill out insurance forms, answer phones and schedule appointments.
-Performs other related duties as directed to support the missions of the Women’s Hope North Health Clinic.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the Physician, Treatment Services Coordinator North, Director of Behavioral Health, Chief Operating Officer and/or Executive Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Excellent writing, communication, organizational and time management skills with knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
-Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
-Exceptional interpersonal skills to relate with clients, participants and resource providers.
-Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
-Ability to maintain harmonious effective working relationships with other employees.

Qualifications:
-High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of outpatient clinic experience.
-Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - preferred.
-Current Basic Life Support Certification required.
-This position requires demonstrated knowledge of Electronic Medical Records systems, PC applications, and software. Individual should be able to obtain a complete medical and social history, chart, take blood pressures, venipuncture, perform EKG medical/clinical office skills.
-Individual must adhere to HIPAA and OSHA regulations and guidelines. All work performed must be in accordance with the Women’s Hope North Health Clinic and Aletheia House policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:
-Requires the physical ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk for moderate periods of time.
-Requires the physical ability to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Job Salary: 
$14.40 per hour
Hours: 
Hours: P/T, Non-Exempt, Tuesday, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm, and Wednesday, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm.
